O’Connor Will Lead Sony’s Digital Cinema Business in North America;
Expanded Team Has Full Resources in Place to Support Exhibitors of all Sizes
Sony Professional Solutions Americas is expanding its simulation and entertainment team with the promotion of Kevin O’Connor to director, sales and marketing. In addition to his current role managing Sony’s 4K laser projection and Canvas high-end display technologies, O’Connor will also lead Sony’s digital cinema business in North America.
“Sony continues to enhance the 4K digital cinema market we pioneered,” said O’Connor. “Our 4K production tools are now widely used by filmmakers, making more 4K content available to exhibitors and ultimately resulting in a more enjoyable and immersive customer experience. Coupled with the expertise and diversity of our digital cinema team’s resources, we are now even better positioned to address the market and respond to the rapidly changing business environment of digital cinema.”
O’Connor will manage an expanded Sony North American digital cinema team, providing sales, marketing and technical support; identifying new opportunities; and enhancing industry relationships. David McIntosh continues to lead Sony’s global digital cinema strategy to ensure consistency across the company’s international marketing and sales efforts.
“Kevin has successfully managed our 4K laser projector business and the recent introduction of our Canvas CLED display system,” said Theresa Alesso, Sony’s vice president of B2B sales and marketing. “These technologies are also perfect fits in movie theaters, either for pre-show use in auditoriums or in lobbies to create a unique visual impact. Combining our simulation/entertainment and digital cinema businesses under Kevin’s experienced leadership expands the technology options we can present to theater owners.”
The Sony North American digital cinema team is made up of industry veterans including Chris Simpson, national account manager; Meihua Gee; managing Virtual Print Fees; Todd Best, sales support engineer; and the newest addition, Keith Vidger, who manages Sony’s Digital Motion Picture Center in Hollywood and brings his 4K production expertise to the team.
Sony 4K projectors are installed in movie theaters worldwide. In addition to projection systems, Sony has supplied exhibitors with technology and support since the 4K conversion began — from integrated software and servers, installation, monitoring, and maintenance to content creation and distribution services.
