New Sony #ActionCam with HD and Wi-Fi (Video)

by Gina 08/29/2012

The name says it all. Today, Sony debuted its new Action Sports HD Video Camera that has built in Wi-Fi. Anthony from SGNL by Sony got an early look with one of the product team members. The #ActionCam ships with a rechargeable battery, adhesive mounts, and a ruggedized waterproof case featuring a universal tripod mount, built to handle extreme environments. But don’t take our word for it. Watch the video.

Hi again, we recommend the Strikemark solution for universal camera mounting via Picatinny rail: http://strikemark.com/products/digital-camera-picatinny-rail-mount/

As an FYI, our standard tripod-type screw mounting system is instantly compatible with a huge ecosystem of 3rd party mounts all using that same tripod screw interface.

Thanks for the reply. But that mount requires the universal camera screw and the Action Cam doesn’t have one. The camera would need to be mounted inside your waterproof case. Need a mount without the case. Hopefully y’all can come up with a solution within the near future.

You’re right. The universal camera screw is on the waterproof housing. We do have a headband solution for use without the waterproof housing, model number is BLT-HB1. And we’ll soon offer an additional door expansion pack that includes an audio-enhanced door to improve stereo sound capture while using the housing. More mounts are on the way, and we hear your request loud and clear! Thanks for the feedback. In the meantime we hope that Action Cam’s other benefits like SteadyShot image stabilization, outweigh any inconvenience caused by using the waterproof housing.

Any timeline on the flat lens HD Dive Door? I’m going on a trip in Dec and would love to capture the awesome footage while snorkeling. I have a different camera with a flat lens, but I’d rather sell that silly thing on ebay and use the Sony Action Cam…but alas, the flat lens is the only reason I haven’t made that switch.

Hi again! We are still on track to ship the flat-lens ‘dive door’ soon. It should be available for pre-sales next week from the Sony Store and ready to ship by the end of November. The door comes in a package with the audio enhanced door, model number AKA-RD1. Hope this helps! And have fun on your upcoming trip!

Hi again! Turns out we don’t publish a cold spec but it will work fine in your situation. Batteries typically do have different stamina profiles depending on temperature. We wouldn’t anticipate any major issues in your use case though. Thanks for your question.

Hi, i was using the Action Cam today and got very disapointed when i saw that the waterproof housing had a lot of condensation witch made the image blury.

How is Sony dealing with this problem?
