Well, he’s done it again! Olympic silver medalist and Sony Walkman® spokesman, Meb Keflezighi, qualified for his 3rd Olympic games earlier this year. It’s a huge accomplishment for the 36-year-old who had to sit out the 2008 summer games due to an injury.
What’s even more remarkable than this third vie for gold, is the passion and commitment Meb has for a project he has championed in tandem with training for the games, the MEB Foundation. MEB, which stands for maintaining excellence and balance, is a non-profit he started in September of 2010 to spread the message of health, fitness and education to kids.
“Health, education and fitness have been the cornerstones that have allowed me to lead a successful life as a youngster and adult,” Meb says his parents always taught their kids that when you have good health, all else can be achieved and that education is the key to life. “Fitness is an important way to keep your body and mind sharp.”
MEB’s goal is to build awareness of a balanced lifestyle of family, education, health – all the things that helped him find success not only as an athlete but through the many challenges he’s overcome in his life. “I think it is very important to develop good and healthy habits at a young age. Being involved in sports has taught me a lot of life lessons and I would like to share these lessons with youth around the world.”
In support of Meb’s commitment to health, fitness, and education Sony developed a special edition Walkman W Series that comes pre-loaded with 24 minutes of coaching by Meb, a booklet of tips for warm ups, running, nutrition and his recommendations for a great playlist. Sales of the Meb Edition Walkman mp3 player will benefit the MEB Foundation.
Meb recorded the video thanks above for all of you who have supported the cause. We wanted to share it here and also let you know of this chance for fans to support the MEB Foundation when purchasing Sony.
As our favorite runner gets ready to represent the USA in the Summer Games, we want to wish him the best of luck! We’ll be rooting for you Meb!
