Sony Creates a Techie Dream Home (Video Tour)

by Anthony 07/27/2011

I thought I was pretty slick when I setup my computer to stream music to my living room stereo. “Here I am,” I thought, “living in the future, straight up ‘Jetsons’-style.” Then SGNL by Sony got invited to the Sony Dream House and I realized just how much can really be done in terms of living alongside technology.

Tucked away in a secret location, a team of Sony engineers is working on the ultimate house of the future, where you can control everything in the house just from the touch of a button or a swipe on the screen of your mobile phone. Imagine going into your own private, 3D theater and in one tap, lowering curtains, dimming the lights, locking the front door, and starting your favorite movie. I did that.

The house isn’t just a high-end playground, either. It’s a testing ground. Sony engineers use the house to test new gear, new software, and new ways to make them work together.

Obviously, I’m not AS impressed by my wireless speakers at home, but that’s okay. It’s nice to know there’s something even better in the works – and that it’s a lot closer than we think.

    Hey Anthony,
Great video, I’m sure everyone wants to know where that test house is, so far I have figured out it’s on Earth.

Perhaps you can create an update to the video where you do a follow up on that 5-figure surround sound speaker. While you are talking just blink out the location in Morse Code.

Last thing, around 4:53, there is a Brutha in the background living the dream. If I could only figure out how to do a few screen shots of that section I could easily convince my friends I was there :)

Thanks for the video, hopefully you’ll do a review of the S1 and S2 soon.

    Peace.
