Sony Will Donate to Relief Efforts in Haiti

by Team Sony 01/19/2010

In a note to employees, Chairman, CEO and President of Sony Corporation, Sir Howard Stringer, announced that the company will donate $250,000 to aid in the disaster relief efforts in Haiti. The contribution will be made on behalf of the entire corporation to the American Red Cross and Save the Children, two organizations already on the ground in Haiti, and a third charity to be named shortly.

Sony’s U.S. employees are encouraged to donate, too, through a special matching gift program set up in accordance with Sony’s philanthropic policies. Sony will match all dollars donated by its U.S. employees to the American Red Cross or Save the Children during the campaign period, which runs from Jan 19-Feb 19 2010, up to a grand total of $100,000.

If you would like contribute to the relief efforts, here are some resources:

How about adding something in Home so the Home community, including some kids without access to a credit card, so that they too can contribute too. It would be good for the Home community. It would be good PR for Home. And Sony can match those contributions and use that as a tax writeoff. You might even see an mention on CNN about how the virtual world raises money for the real world suffering, which would bring big time media exposure for Sony in a very positive light.

Great Move Sony, special thank you to all the Sony’s employees who are donating. I’m Haitian / American living in Miami right now. I’m a photographer and use Sony DSLR alpha for my work. I have plan to go in Haiti in the next weeks in order to help and document the relief process. All pictures taken will be used as fundraising for different charitable organisations like Save The Children and The Red Cross.

    Thanks again Sony

    Sony,

This is a wonderful gesture on behalf of your corporation, especially matching the funds of your employees’ contributions.

It would be nice to see you ALSO donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Michael Jackson’s This is It DVD/Blu-Ray sales. Michael dedicated his life to others and would have been leading the way into Haitian relief efforts by every means possible.

So please, in Michael’s expansive humanitarian legacy and memory of his gentle soul, please make a substantial contribution in his name.
