School is almost over and summer is just around the corner. That means families will be heading to the beach, to their favorite theme parks and other popular destinations for their summer vacation. This also means a ton of photo opportunities! Just imagine your daughter is building a sand castle, your son is on his boogie board and your husband is out on the raft catching some rays. It’s the perfect family day and now you can capture it all on one photo with your Sony 3D panoramic camera!

To show you how to take great 3D panoramic photos, here’s Peg demonstrating on a Sony DSC-TX10. Keep in mind, each camera is slightly different so be sure to check the owner’s manual or visit us at http://esupport.sony.com/ for your specific features and menu options.  Now make sure you exit out of easy mode before you get started and let’s start creating 3D panoramic memories!

So how did you do? Let’s see those pictures! You have some time before summer vacation starts, so if you need a helping hand to get started, please don’t hesitate to comment here or email my team at sonylistens@am.sony.com. We’re always happy to help! Have a snappy and a fun filled photo weekend!

By: | Posted: 4/26/2012

Sony and the Billboard Music Awards are teaming up to give you a once in a lifetime opportunity. We will be sending two lucky winners to the 2012 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas to shoot from the red carpet as Billboard’s fan photographers.

Right after the show, the winners’ photos from the red carpet will be posted online to Billboard.com/BBMA.

To enter, visit Photos.Billboard.com, Twitter or Instagram and upload your best photo with #BBMAFanPhotog by April 30.

Traveling the world and documenting it all through photos … now that has gotta be the good life and one that most people only dream about.

Well, it’s a reality and full-time job for professional photographer and Sony Artisan of Imagery Andy Katz. As an Artisan, Andy shares his expertise with Sony customers through photography discussions and events.

Video: Sony’s product life cycle is clean and green

By: | Posted: 4/22/2012

Happy Earth Day, folks! In honor of today, we made an animated video depicting the life cycle of a Sony TV.  Check it out:

It’s not only our TVs that are made with recycled plastics, use less paper packaging, and are equipped with energy saving technologies. As part of our dedication to protecting and improving the environment, we measure the green credentials of all of our products throughout their life cycle — that means product design, procurement, manufacturing, transportation, use, and end of life product management.

Conserving resources, eliminating hazardous chemicals, increasing energy efficiency, reducing pollution and offering green products and convenient recycling opportunities to our fans are among many areas to which we’re committed.

Take our BDP-S185 Blu-Ray player, for example, which is 59% smaller and more energy efficient by 57% compared to the predecessor model (BDP-S370).

And our VAIO® S series notebooks are brimming with advanced technology for the best of both worlds in performance and energy efficiency. All models are Energy Star® qualified and EPEAT® (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Gold registered.

Check out our product innovation page on Sony’s new green web site to see more eco features on current Sony products promoting “more with less.”

In the spirit of Earth Day, Sony Headquarters in San Diego will be sponsoring I Love a Clean San Diego’s 10th annual Creek to Bay cleanup on April 28.

ILACSD invites SoCal’ers and San Diego residents to volunteer at various cleanup sites throughout San Diego County to help remove marine debris from our bays and beaches.

How are you guys celebrating Earth Day in your cities? Drop us a comment below to share how you keep it clean and green.

Smart Watch 2

The skinny on SmartWatch

By: | Posted: 4/21/2012

Calling … Dick Tracy?!

That’s right. Sony’s latest and greatest little invention combines the wonder of the Android™-powered mobile age with the sci-fi fantasies of a 1940s radio serial.

The SmartWatch – name pretty much says it all, right? – allows you to get quick and efficient updates from your Android™ smartphone, all right on your wrist or clipped to your shirt. Check text messages, Facebook® and Twitter™ updates, and control your music: you can do it all with the SmartWatch.

And, trust me, this is no piece of toss-away hardware. Though it’s only eight millimeters thick (thin, really), it’s dust- and splash-resistant because of its aluminum casing. It comes with a black rubber strap – because, really, black is the new black – and an included adaptor to incorporate your own favorite wrist band. We’ll also offer the rubber bands in five other flavors: pink, mint, gray, white and blue.

Now, we’ve been calling this an Android™ accessory because it is an Android™ accessory. You don’t need a Sony Mobile or Sony Ericsson phone for the SmartWatch to do its thing. HTC Desire? Works with that. Motorola Droid RAZR? Yep. Samsung Galaxy SII or LG Optimus One? Check and check.

Typical battery time for this bad boy is about three or four days but, with Bluetooth® disabled (say, when you’re sleeping), you can run this on standby for up to two weeks without a charge.

How does it compare to other “smart” watches? Well, for one, it’s using versions of Android™ 2.1 and up. Throw in the 128×128 OLED screen and the accelerometer and this thing’s looking pretty sweet.

But, don’t take our word for it. Want to see the goods? Feast your eyes on this:

The SmartWatch is now available for $150 (excluding tax). Swing by a Sony Store to check it out.
