LBP2 Goes For World Record at Sony Style

By: | Posted: 1/17/2011

Okay for all the sackpeople out there, as you know, this week is quite an exciting one and the Sony Style team is thrilled to be part of the celebration. To commenorate Little BigPlanet 2’s January 18th launch, PlayStation partnered with Guinness World Records to put the epic game in the books. Over today, January 17th to January 19ths, the goal is to set FIVE new records in three days.

How’s this possible you ask? I’m not expert but I’d imagine you’d need three things: a stage to make history, dedicated fans, and a game good enough to play for hours on end. Check.Check. Check. If you happen to be in New York next week, be sure to stop by the PlayStation Lounge at the Sony Style store located at 550 Madison Avenue (NY/NY 10022). It will be here at that team of loyal LBP fans will gear themselves up to set new gaming records and earn a place in game fame.

Here’s a list of the Guinness World Records to be set:

  • Longest marathon playing LittleBigPlanet 2
  • Longest marathon playing a platform video game
  • Most video game genres played in one video game in 24 hours
  • Most user-generated video game levels played in 24 hours
  • Most user-generated video game levels played in a marathon
  • LittleBigPlanet 2 will also be recognized for the following records:
  • Most gaming genres in one video game
  • Most player-created levels in one video game

Now if you’re not there, you can still cheer with New Yorkers when history is made. The PlayStation blog will be live streaming the event (hosted by Veronica Belmont from PlayStation’s Qore and PlayStation Blog’s Jeff Rubenstein). They’ll be on hand to get behind-the-scenes interviews with the developers on the game and answer your curious questions live.

Now because this is being hosted at Sony Style, we wanted to  get in on all the fun, be sure to keep your phone on hand Foursquare users.

Beginning tomorrow, show a PlayStation Rep (at the 550 Madison Avenue Sony Style Store) you’ve checked into that store & snag an autographed LittleBigPlanet game cover & downloadable content w/purchase of the new LBP2 game! Valid 1/18/11-1/19/11.

Sony’s Bloggie Touch vs. Other MP4 Cameras

By: | Posted: 12/21/2010

So why use an MP4 camera over a smart phone and which MP4 camera is right for you? On an episode of SGNL by Sony, Anthony and Melody go through those questions. They take a look at Sony’s Bloggie® Touch and stacks it against the Flip Slide HD and the Kodak Play Touch. Some of the things they look at is picture & video capabilities, use of the LCD screen and various pros and cons of looking at MP4 cameras in general. They also address a popular question we’ve seen asked a lot. Does the Bloggie Touch work with a Mac?

See the differences between all of them and decide for yourself.

Special Sony Holiday Gift Guide

By: | Posted: 11/30/2010

Alright so we’re past Thanksgiving. Hopefully by now everyone has had a chance to take a breath. Family is gone, dishes are done and left-overs are on their last day out. It’s now time to get back to work where we can all recover and spend our paid hours doing some holiday shopping. I read that one survey reported over 70.1 million Americans plan to shop at work today. Um that’s more than half the workforce.

I have to admit. I’ve done it before. Each year I get that nervousness that my boss is around the corner. Hands trembling, I quickly check out envisioning that I’m a secret agent on a covert mission. To help us all be a little more efficient at work, the Sony Style team had some fun in helping shoppers find the perfect gift. Now yes, gift guides are everywhere and yes, this is a gift guide all about Sony® products – but if you’re in the market for gadgets this season, hopefully the guide will help you dig through the site as well as suggest some items you wouldn’t have considered. It might even help do some homework and research for you.

Our pals Melody and Anthony from SGNL covered it in the latest episode of SGNL by Sony. You can check out the video here as well as see what their favorite holiday Sony gadgets are.

I appreciated the flavor that Sony Style’s creative team took with a couple of features. First they made a mobile version which is nice. If I’m in a store considering Sony as an option (or even another brand), I can at least use this guide to find ideas and inspiration. I also liked the naughty/nice bar they added. Look, I love you mom but I just can’t spend $200 on you. I enjoyed having the ability to adjust to my comfort level in budget. And I do like that they took a different approach in categories. It’s not the “him” “her” “kids” titles you see. It’s grouped by interest and use case which helps me. But hey, you gatta judge for yourself and I always recommend checking our customer reviews on sites like CNet or SonyStyle.com.

And for good holiday deals this season, we’re keeping tabs on all the Sony Style deals via www.sony.com/deals. Hopefully you’re (not) reading this at work.

Sony Window Display Stops People In Their Tracks

By: | Posted: 11/03/2010

I’m what you call a “window shopper”.  Like sirens, window displays sing their sweet song blindly driving me into the store to spend my grocery budget on the latest and greatest displayed. But for me, that’s because of the aesthetics of what I’m seeing. Window displays for electronics can be a little more tricky since seeing the device in the window may pique my interest, but ultimately I want to see a gadget in action before I buy (or at least watch an unboxing vid).

Enter the Sony Internet TV window display on 550 Madison Ave. Sony Style unveiled their display on October 16th in celebration of the newly released Sony Internet TV line of products which include TVs and a Blu-ray player featuring Google TV. In this window display, passersby can snag the Sony Internet TV remote, turn to the window and dive right into playing with Google TV on the device. Sony Ambassadors are also on hand outside (rain, sleek or sun) to answer any questions folks might have on the device. So far the display has stopped folks in their tracks. Wherever they were heading was quickly forgotten as they pulled up a Chrome browser right on Madison Avenue. You can see all about it in this nifty video.

So if I ever questioned whether or not I’d be more drawn in by a fantastic new ball gown that I have absolutely no place to wear it to or by a TV sitting in the window, I’ve been rightfully put in my place.  I’d proudly choose the later.

Check out some of these photos.

New PS3 site subtly makes a “Move” on SonyStyle.com

By: | Posted: 9/21/2010

Last week, SonyStyle.com quietly updated their PS3 pages to prominently feature PlayStation’s latest gamer gadget, PlayStation’s Move.

Officially available last Friday, SonyStyle.com’s “Move” site is a slight departure of what you’ve normally seen with the black background synonymous with the site. An indication of more to come? Perhaps but regardless there are some great new features to share:

After the fancy introduction, you have the option of selecting (3) buttons: Explore, Games and Learn.

Diving into explore, you can get detailed info about each component including the Motion Controller, PlayStation Eye Camera, PlayStation 3 and Navigation Controller. Click the small dots on each component and it reveals cool inside looks. For example, I clicked the sphere at the end of the Motion Controller and learned that it pairs with the PlayStation eye camera to pinpoint your position and motion within a room translating your every move into gameplay with absolute precision. Who knew?

As you dive into the next button, “Games”, a user is able to not only see the current games for MOVE but get details such as game photos and Move required components.

Then to me, the pièce de résistance is the “Learn” button. Here you can watch some great videos about Move to include a video from Kevin Butler and the Developer Dairies which chronicles their thoughts on the development & inspiration of the new gaming system.

Overall great. Highly interactive and a chance to really dive into Move and all it has to offer. Of course as our readers, it’s really about what you think. So please let us know your thoughts. What do you like and not like about our new page? We take your feedback to heart and look forward to learning what you think!

Thanks for playing :-)
