CES Booth Tour

A Grand Tour of our Booth Before CES 2012 Powers Down

By: | Posted: 1/13/2012

Remember how it feels on the last day of a vacation? The somber feeling builds up after having a whirlwind of excitement, only to return to normalcy. The time has come and the 2012 Computer Electronics Show is on its last day of the show. So before the booth closes we wanted to give you a good look at everything we had going on inside the booth. Though we have a lot of videos about new Sony products, this is our chance to give you our grand tour.  Don’t forget to see everything we showed at CES and to keep an eye out on our wrap up show on SGNL by Sony where we answer your questions in the show. Tell us what your favorite part of the booth was. We’d love to hear from you.

SGNL by Sony

New Sony Internet Video Show Debuts

By: | Posted: 11/09/2010

So you may have read that Sony recently launched a new internet show. The rumors are true. I now officially introduce to you SGNL by Sony (pronounced “Signal by Sony”). SGNL is going to show viewers all the Sony haps and not just electronics. We’ll dive into music, movies, games and gadgets. For example you may see a certain Jim Lee (comic book legend) in our next episode.

No matter what the topic, the purpose isn’t to be all Sony sunshine and butterflies. Yes it will be a show about Sony products but we will talk about both the pluses of our products and some of the downsides as well as answering customer concerns during the show. You’ll also see us chatting about how our gadgets stack up to some other options out there. If you’re in the market for something, the hope is that this show can take care of some of your homework.

So what kind of stuff will you see? Everything. From interviews with experts, behind the scenes looks, unboxing videos, news and even taking gadgets out for a test spin. It’s a bi-weekly show and it’s hosted by two folks: Melody Akhtari and Anthony Carboni. In fact you may have seen Anthony on a few other shows like Bytejacker and AppJudgement.

Our first episode just launched and it gives you an inside look at our Alpha NEX-5 camera with a pro photographer. He actually is a Cannon DSLR user but had a great time with our NEX-5. You’ll also see an unboxing of our new gaming PC headset and how Sony’s Netbox SMP-100 stacks up against Apple TV. I think you’ll be surprised at what you’ll see. And lastly you get to learn a little bit about some orbed men taking over Norway on Facebook. Don’t know what I’m talking about? You’re going to have to watch to find out.

And if these topics don’t yet pique your interestmaybe some opportunities to snag some free gadgets and special offers will. Yep – to learn more about that you’ll have to watch the show.

At the end of the day, we are doing shows like this for YOU so we are open to your feedback. Tell us what you think, what we can do better and what you’d like to see featured on the show. Who knows, maybe we’ll read your feedback on the show!

You can find us www.sony.com/sgnl and look for us on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and more great places coming soon!

Sneak Peek: New Sony Camcorder in Development

By: | Posted: 5/11/2010

Drum roll please. This video is a very early look at a AVCHD high definition camcorder featuring an interchangeable lens system still in development at Sony. The details are few, but we can tell you it will be equipped with the same “Exmor” APS HD CMOS sensor used in Sony’s newest digital still cameras, models NEX-5 and NEX-3.

In addition, the camcorder will be compatible with “E Mount” interchangeable lenses developed for NEX-5 and NEX-3, and also the wealth of “A Mount” interchangeable lenses from the existing “α” DSLR camera lineup via a mount adapter.

Look for this new HD camcorder later this fall.

Sony at NAB is quite a production

By: | Posted: 4/02/2010

On April 12 – 15,  broadcast and video production professionals will converge in Las Vegas for the biggest show of the year, the 82nd National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB). Sony will once again have the biggest presence on the show floor.

Like the movie “Avatar” (shot with Sony professional cameras,  by the way) Sony’s exhibit at NAB is a vibrant production that brings together sweeping visuals, cutting-edge technology and the most creative minds in the industry. If you have not been to a show of this kind or been involved in a production this size, you may be surprised to know it takes 12 months to plan and six months to prepare for the production that is “Sony at NAB”.

In a way, our presence at NAB mirrors that of a movie shoot,
with a cast of thousands, stars (aka our new line of products), walk-ons,
producers, directors, camera operators and even grips that all do their part to
bring the event to life, and this year we bring it in stunning
3D
.  The energy spent piecing
together the 25,000  square feet of
exhibit space ensures the visual story we tell of our latest cameras,
switchers, displays and more is a cohesive and compelling one.

Earth Hour: Turn Off the Lights

By: | Posted: 3/26/2010

When the clock strikes 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, expect to see lights go dark around the globe for Earth Hour. Last year more than 1 billion people around the world flipped off their light switches as a way to reduce electricity for one hour and bring attention to the need for every individual to take action on climate change.

Last year as 8:30 p.m. drew near in San Francisco, I dreaded an hour of disconnection. Since I couldn’t be online and didn’t want to sit in the dark, I unplugged, turned off the lights and went for a walk.  I have to say, I was amazed at the number of lights that were off at that hour including those on the Bay Bridge, Coit Tower and the Transamerica Building. There are a number of great pictures online of huge cities with big patches of darkness. If you took part in Earth Hour, what did you think? Is this something you might try this year? If you do, take some pictures and share them with us.

At Sony, we’re committed more than ever to be a leader in protecting our environment and promoting sustainable business practices and lifestyles. During the month of April, leading up to Earth Day (April 22) we’re planning the following “Earth Month” activities for Sony employees:

o Earth Fair at Sony Electronics headquarters in San Diego

o E-waste recycling events at several Sony Electronics locations

o Distribute “Greenfill” boxes promoting the ongoing recycling of small eWaste (cameras, phones, batteries, adapters, etc.)

o Environmental Film Festival with screenings of four different “green” documentaries at various Sony Electronics offices

We welcome the active engagement of our employees in our environmental efforts, both at the office and in our communities. Learn more on our Sony Green Website.
