There’s always a fun process that happens when a celebrity baby is born. First it’s the ticker at the bottom of a news screen. Then, after utter anticipation, the first photos are published. Some people knock this, but I love it. I love that moment when I can finally catch a glimpse, jeleously gasp in the fact that they’re almost always stunning and then begin to chat about it with my girlfriends.
Well for literary gadget lovers, today is all about our own celebrity baby and like a proud mamma, I have to say our designers delivered him (or her!) in Sony Style…The highly-anticipated wireless Reader Daily Edition is now available for pre-order on SonyStyle.com. Shipments arrive next month.
With access to Sony’s eBookstore from most anywhere in the U.S., the Reader Daily Edition uses 3G mobile broadband connectivity to let you browse, purchase and download books (as well as various newspapers and magazines). My favorite part of all this is that there are zero monthly fees or transaction charges for the basic wireless connectivity and owners still have the option to side load personal docs & content from other Reader friendly sites via USB. Other features include a menu-driven, seven-inch touch screen panel, note taking/highlighting capabilities (along with note export/print capabilities for easy reference) and an onboard Oxford American English Dictionary that allows you to look up a word by simply tapping on it.
So there’s a little info on our new baby, let’s talk delivery… The Reader Daily joins its brothers and sisters, The Reader Touch and Pocket Editions on a brand new Sony Reader section of our website.

New Main Reader Page: It’s now a quick, animated summary view of the various models, pricing and colors.

Hot Spot Info: Click your mouse on one of the colored hot spots and get instant info on the Reader’s features.

Multi-View Rotate Tool: You can click the rotate button to get side angle, front and back views

Hand Size Simulations: My favorite new feature. Now at first glance, disembodied hands could be a little creepy (which is why they chose to illustrate them – no hands were disembodied during the making of this site) but once you start to play with the tool, it’s just brilliant. So many people have asked me about how this fits in big hands, small hands, etc. After passing the feedback along, our design team approached the challenge in a way I never would have imagined.

eBook Store
We had gotten a lot of feedback about better integrating with the eBook store. It made perfect sense and now you can browse through the best sellers list in a grid. Click on any book to get more info. You can even make this full screen.
This is just a few of the new features we’ve added so you’re ganna have to check it out for yourself. And as you can see, a lot of these new features were inspired by comments on this blog around what you like, don’t like and would love to see so keep the feedback coming. It might be illustrated hands now, but you never know what the design team will come up with next.
