Sony at The Con

By: | Posted: 7/23/2010 | Posted in News & Announcements

There’s only one time a year when you can head to downtown San Diego to see trolley signs in Klingon, Imperial Stormtroopers pushing strollers and hear from geek legends. It’s Comic-Con 2010 and this year falls nothing short of spectacular.

If you don’t have a ticket, that’s okay. Plenty of people descend upon the city to take part in the numerous free parties, freebies on the street and of course the people watching. And if you can’t make it to Sam Diego, simply do a quick internet search and you’ll get to virtually experience the madness.

For Sony fans, you definitely can’t miss us. Inside the Sony booths its definitely about 3D. From 3D movies,3D Blu-ray discs and gaming, you can quickly see the popular theme as fans lined up to experience our latest and greatest in 3D technology.

If you’re in the exhibit hall just look towards the ceiling and our booth will guide you (booth locations below)

Sony Booths: (map here):

  • Sony Computer Entertainment of America: #4237
  • Sony Online Entertainment: #4329
  • Sony Pictures Entertainment: #4319

While in the Sony Pictures booth, you can experience the excitement around the upcoming film, “The Green Hornet” (coming out in 3D) including a movie clip & interactive experience with you in the film. Today, there’s also a panel.  Other films include “Battle Los Angeles” and a close-up look at “Resident Evil” in 3D. For “Resident Evil” and 3D fans there’s a special scavenger hunt you can join in on.

Sony Pictures also gave attendees a huge surprise in yesterday’s panel featuring “Salt” and “Battle Los Angeles”. The star of “Salt” made her rumored appearance and answered questions from the audience.  You can follow the Green Hornet on Twitter to learn about the latest at the Con as well as see what’s happening at Brit Reid’s Garage (Foursquare mayors get special privileges by the way). You can also check them out on Facebook to learn how you can ride in the Black Beauty.

For gamers, it’s a blast the PlayStation booth. You can play fan favorites like LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, The Sly Collection, and  God of War: Ghost of Sparta. And the pièce de résistance? Playing the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 in 3D. They are also participating in a host of in-depth panels which you can check out here along with daily coverage.

And this is just the tip of the ice-berg. So if you’ve dusted off your costume and headed out there, we’d love to hear from you. Or if you’re checking out the coverage online, be sure to share. The Con and all its glory descends on our city once a year – and between you and me – let’s hope it stays that way.

Your E-READER products such as the “DAILY EDITION” or an enhanced version of this product (with color imagery) could be a significant utility to engineers, scientist and technical support to professional trades (don’t forget the military and their equipment maintenance publications). Your price point vs value is a significant advantage.

As a technical professional, engineer or scientist, it is impossible to carry around all the reference material to support your endevor. An E-BOOK device could fulfill that need. An encrypted access E-BOOK device would support sensitive and classified material.

I believe that publishers of technical data would jump at the chance to support E-BOOK technology in technological fields and assist in it’s development.

My technical background is 25 years in the USN as an Electronics Technician and Warrent Office “Electronics Tech”, Logistics Engineer (BS degree) in the defence industry and as a professional estimator in the building trades. The R.S. Means and other estimating software developers, including tables and specification references from manufactures were my right hand. Having this data in a portable digital format for job site and out of office use and not only in hard copy or fixed digital format (desktop PC) would be liberating, very time efficient, labor saving, convenient and cost savings.

Think outside the box people. Sony is a technology powerhouse. Please do not loose sight of this.
