40 Multi-format Cameras to Outfit “Digital Center 2” State-of-the-Art Operation

PARK RIDGE, N.J., April 3, 2014 — Sony’s newest multi-format high-definition studio cameras will power ESPN’s new Digital Center 2 studio production operations in Bristol, Conn. The 193,000-square-foot facility, planned to go on-air in May 2014, will include a total of 40 Sony cameras – 29 HDC-2400 and 11 HDC-P1 models.

“Digital Center 2 will launch as a full 1080/60P facility, and we have chosen Sony for our studio cameras,” said Kevin Stolworthy, senior vice president, Content and Information Technology. ESPN’s DC 2 camera roll-out continues its long-standing use of Sony HD production technology. Sony HDC series cameras are already in use across several ESPN operations, including Los Angeles Production Center, Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World, The Longhorn Network and various remote operations.

The Digital Center 2 facility will be a main hub for a wide range of ESPN programming, including SportsCenter and other studio shows, integrating live events, and content developed for the web and mobile devices.

“24/7 networks with constantly changing programming requirements need cameras that can keep pace with extremely demanding production schedules, without any downtime,” said Alec Shapiro, president, Sony Electronics Professional Solutions of America. “Our HDC series cameras are proven performers designed to deliver a combination of image quality, flexibility and performance.”
