I’m ready to sit down and enjoy my evening with the family. Our favorite movie is on the Sony Movie Channel tonight. Hmmm, that’s weird… why is the little red light on the front of my BRAVIA television blinking? I’m not getting a picture either. Now this stinks! Our movie starts in 10 minutes! Let me go to Sony’s eSupport website and see what I can find to troubleshoot this.
This is what the SonyListens team would normally recommend… visit the eSupport website or call into Sony’s product support team. However, Peg has developed another helpful how-to video showing you some steps that may help you in this situation. Check out the video below and feel free to follow along with the steps listed on our eSupport site as well.
Did you find this video helpful? If you still need us to lend a hand, please email the SonyListens team at sonylistens@am.sony.com and we’ll make sure to get you pointed in the right direction for further assistance.
What is that ASSIST button for on the top of my VAIO® Laptop? What does VAIO Care™ mean? It’s listed under my programs. My VAIO Laptophas been really slow lately and I just don’t know how to go about fixing it. And honestly, I don’t have time right now to call technical support for help. Can this VAIO Care thing or ASSIST button help me out? The answer is… YES! VAIO Care can help and the ASSIST button is a shortcut that allows you to open VAIO Care. I’d like to explain the benefit of this program.
Whether you enter VAIO Care from the ASSIST button or start menu, this utility can guide you through troubleshooting steps, system updates, configuration tools and system tune-up options. VAIO Care is actually a built-in troubleshooting and maintenance program that comes installed on your VAIO PC to help you maintain peak performance and resolve any concerns you may be having with your VAIO PC. Be aware, not all VAIO PCs will have the ASSIST button but you can easily access it under your programs list in the start menu button.
Here again is my friend and colleague, Peg, with some helpful instructions on how to navigate through VAIO Care and the advantages you will have in using it.
So is your VAIO PC working better now? Let me know if you still need assistance. I’m confident that VAIO Care will help you out but just in case, the SonyListens team is here to help. Leave a comment or feel free to email me at sonylistens@am.sony.com.

It’s Friday night, your work week was a long one and you’re just glad it’s finally over. Now you’re home, in comfy clothes, lounging on the sofa with the family just in time for the pizza delivery driver. Now what to watch… There’s nothing on TV and you’re really not in the mood to go stand in line at the movie rental kiosk outside the grocery store. In addition, the movie you selected from your internet subscription service hasn’t arrived in the mail yet. You also heard about a really funny YouTube™ video about a sneezing panda and the entire family doesn’t want to all gather around your VAIO® Notebook to watch it. It would be so much easier to watch it on your BRAVIA® television.
I’m sure this sounds all too familiar to you. I know because you tell me all the time that you know your Sony Blu-ray Disc player has Wi-Fi® capabilities and popular apps like Netflix®, Pandora®, YouTube and Hulu Plus™ but you just need a little helping hand on how to get connected to a wireless network. You’re in luck! My colleague, Todd, has created a video, along with the Sony Listens team, to guide you through the steps on getting your Blu-ray Disc player hooked up to a wireless network. Check out the video and feel free to follow along. You can also visit our eSupport Site to view the step by step instructions.
So how did you do? Everything connected correctly? Let me know how your movie night went with the family now that you have a wireless connection on your Blu-ray Disc player. Let’s see your feedback and comments. I always enjoy hearing from you! And keep those ideas coming on what you want to see featured in our upcoming Tips & Tricks blogs.
(NOTE: Netflix, Pandora, YouTubeand Hulu Plus all require an account to use their services. Please visit their individual websites for more information on setting up an account and the terms and conditions of each company)
So my friend, Stephanie, got a new Sony Tablet™ S for Christmas last year but she’s still using it to just play Angry Birds and browse the internet. She lives in Florida and her brother lives in New York (he also owns the Sony Tablet™ S and loves it). Adam, her brother, and I have been trying to get her out of her shell and explore the opportunities with a multimedia device like the Sony Tablet S. Now after just the right amount of nudging, she’s ready to attempt setting up a video chat session with Adam, using the Google Talk™ app.
Does this sound like your friend, family member or… you? Nervous to try new apps? Don’t be! It’s fun! We’ve heard from our product support team that a number of you have wanted some step by step instructions on the same thing, “how to start using the Google Talk™ application”. So the Sony Listens group has done just that. Here again is my colleague, Peg, to walk you through the simple steps on how to get you connected to your friends and family online and start up that conversation. Happy chatting and tell them Sarah said hi!!
Feel free to follow along with the steps listed below:

In the upper-right corner of the desktop home screen, tap the Apps icon.
In the Apps screen, tap the Talk icon.
In the Accounts screen, tap the Sign in button. [NOTE -If you do not have a Google™ account then create a Google™ account and register the tablet to that account (Google™ requires that you read and accept theirTerms of Service and Privacy Policy upon creating an account). Once a Google™ Account has been created and the tablet is registered to that account, restart this procedure from the beginning.]
In the Talk screen, tap to place a check in the box next to Allow video and voice chats.
Below your own Google™ Account, tap the user account you want to chat with.
Tap the appropriate icon to begin either a voice or video chat session:
To begin a voice chat session, tap the Microphone icon.
To begin a video chat session, tap the Camera icon
NOTES:
Once either the Microphone or Camera icons have been tapped, the other user will be contacted and required to accept the chat invitation. Once they accept the invitation, the chat initialization is complete and the chat session will begin.
Any user account you want to video chat with must have a video icon next to their account name. This indicates that the user has a video camera or web cam and has the ability to initialize a video chat.
Tell us how your voice or video chat session went. How about a comment?
Also, we really appreciate your feedback and want to know what you’d like to see in the future. We always love to hear from you. So send us a note letting us know what kind of tips and tricks you’d like to see featured.
Tap, tap and slide. Sound familiar? How about tapping and scrolling? Sound familiar now? You got it! These are actually ways you can interact with the touchpad on your Sony VAIO® Laptop. For some time now double tapping the middle of the touchpad has meant the same thing as clicking the left button on your laptop. Sliding your finger down the right side of the touchpad or along the bottom of the touchpad allows you to scroll a page either vertically or horizontally while sliding on the center moves the mouse.
While we know some of you love these options, we also hear from a number of you asking for the good ole days where a tap was just that. So Sony Listens created a couple videos to help you enable and disable these features. We understand you don’t always have time to call into tech support or send an email to us for help, so my colleague, Peg, has some simple instructions in these help and how to videos that we hope you will find quite useful. And the best part… you can watch them at your convenience!
So which way do you prefer your touchpad to work, tap, scroll, on or off? Sound off with a comment.
Also, we want to know what you’d like to see in the future. We’d love to hear from you so make sure to send us a note letting us know what kind of tips and tricks you’d like to see featured.
