Masters in 3D 2011

Watch the Masters Golf Tournament in 3D starting Thursday

By: | Posted: 4/07/2011

Once again the sweeping views of Augusta, Georgia will be center stage for golf fans around the world and once again, Sony has stepped up to help broadcast the world famous Masters Tournament in stunning 3D kicking off this Thursday, April 7th. As you may remember last year’s tournament was greatly anticipated by interested viewers for a variety of reasons. While the challenge for the players was the difficult course and immense pressure, for us it was the opportunity to help produce and broadcast the first ever golf tournament in 3D. This year, ESPN3D has expanded its coverage to include all four rounds of the tournament.

Multiple 3D professional cameras and equipment are strategically placed throughout the course to see the swings, the scoring and of course the breathtaking scenery of Augusta National. Whether you’re a golf fan or not if you have a 3D TV it’s worth tuning in to see the amazing 3D cinematography. The Masters website also has tips on how you can view the content on 3D televisions and notebooks.

The Masters footage from 2010 has been shared at many of our events and is often a show stopper as passerby’s gather around the Sony monitors to see the quality 3D images, for some it’s the first time seeing this level of quality in 3D.

For those who want to see the Masters Tournament in 3D but without the capability at home, you’ll have the chance at a few select Sony Stores.

Participating Sony Style Stores: Topanga, Tampa, The Woodlands, Dallas, South Coast Plaza.

Air times Eastern Standard Time (EST):

April 7: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

April 8: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

April 9: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Sony portable 3D Blu-ray player CES 2011

Straight from the Sony labs: Sony 3D technology in development

By: | Posted: 1/08/2011

The lines to see the technology Sony has in development were long  at CES. Between the 3D head-mount display, 3D OLED monitor and the 3D portable Blu-ray players, that section of the booth was a constant traffic jam. I couldn’t help but take the opportunity to share the prototypes with our online community, so I took a camera out on the floor and shot this demonstration with Arturo Jordan, who specializes in all things 3D at Sony Electronics. Take a look at the video then let us know if you can imagine any of these devices coming in handy in your life. I can tell you after trying on the 3D head-set, I’m putting my name on the list to see if the engineers need a product tester!

Did you come by the show? Let us know what you think of the new technologies.

3D Myth Busting

By: | Posted: 12/28/2010

We all know 3DTVs are out there, but for many, it’s still a completely new concept with lots of different messages in the market. In Episode 4 of SGNL by Sony, Anthony and Melody answer some of the most common questions people have when looking to purchase a 3DTV. I’ll be upfront, if you’re a TV buff, then I’m not sure these questions will be helpful but if you’re looking for a TV right now and thinking about getting one with 3D capabilities, I’d definitely recommend checking the video out.

They boiled it down to five key questions.

1) Do Sony’s 3DTVs display everything in 3D all the time?
2) Do I need additional equipment besides a 3D HDTV?
3) Can I watch 3D content on my existing TV if I just wear the glasses?”
4) Why do most 3D capable TVs require you to wear glasses?
5) Aren’t 3D TVS more expensive than on 3D HDTVs?

Let me know what you thought of the video and if you have other 3DTV myth busting questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Well tonight marks the first time you’ll be able to see all of this in 3D as the Miami vs New York game marks the inaugural 3D broadcast of National Basketball Association games in 3D.

The NBA adds to the growing lineup of content on ESPN 3D. Sony has worked with the network to bring you events like the World Cup, Summer X Games, BCS Football and now a planned 14 NBA games in 3D.

All of these events are brought to you using Sony professional 3D equipment. If you’ve got a 3D setup at home, then you can enjoy the game in what has got to be THE next best thing to actually being courtside. The depth of 3D will make watching basketball even more thrilling since the court size is smaller and speed and pacing of the players is faster too.

Sony HD cameras are by far the most popular cameras used to capture 3D sports and live events. For the Miami vs NY game, crews will be Sony HDC-P1 cameras in 3D rigs, as well as the Sony MVS-8000X production switcher with 3D capabilities that enables producers to easily manage and work with stereo signals.

You can find a full list of games from the ESPN 3D schedule. And right around the corner is March Madness, so if college hoops are more your speed check out the select games that will be broadcast in 3D.
