SNEAK PEEK from IFA 2013: New VAIO lineup (Windows 8 convertible PCs, Tablets)

by Kathleen 09/04/2013

Big news, guys! Today we’re excited to unveil two unique additions to the VAIO┬« Family: the VAIO | Flip PC and the VAIO Tap 11.

Featuring a unique hinge mechanism, the VAIO | Flip PC’s screen can be flipped over to be seen by someone who’s sitting across from you. Check out the video to see it in action.

Meanwhile, the VAIO Tap 11 is a Windows 8 tablet that comes with a magnetic keyboard/cover so you can get just as much work done as you would on a traditional PC. Also, it’s just really, really, ridiculously good-looking ;)

Watch to get all the specs and info from Olivia and Hans.

Would like to see spec breakdown on the various Flip models, as it seems there is a difference between them. Another point is the spec on the chips available for inclusion… Is the Intel integrated 5K series GPU type chips going to be available, perhaps the Core i5 4250-60, as well as the Core i7? Especially for those not needing quad core, the i5 series with the 5K would be a better option as it would offer longer battery life… like the MacAir13, which seems to be almost the only reason for its longer batt life.

please hear my voice, increase resolution to
4k or at least 2k. 1080 is poor for designer and even normal client. its your golden key to success.

Will any of these units include a GPS?

Hi Jim, thanks for your question! Our VAIOs do not have GPS included.

I stumbled onto your announcement last month and have been waiting ever since! For me, it’s the discrete graphics- this is the only hybrid with that option. I was hoping they’d be out Oct. 1…. any word on when to expect it?

Hi Jon, thanks for your comment. Keep an eye out for them in mid to late October!

Has the “L” series All In One been updated for this fall? Is a larger screen model on the way? I see the model (in custom configuration) has been pulled from the Sony website just as I was about to order one.

Hi Willis, our L Series has been replaced with the VAIO Tap: Thanks for your question!

Is there a place to pre-order this?

Also, I’ve seen on some sites that the Flip 14″ and 15″ models have a big hard drive and I’m guessing that’s a big contributor to the added weight. One of the review sites mentioned an SSD was available for one of the larger models. Are any details available on this and/or any impact this has on weight for what otherwise look like bulky 14 and 15-inch variants? (I’d love the high resolution of the 15″ at 3.5 lbs)

Hi Chad, thanks for your question. They won’t be available on until later this month. Hang tight!

Hi! What will the differences be between top of the line duo13 and flip 13? Tech Specs plus size, weight, price and all other bells and whistles. Will the flip replace the duo? I read the flip will cost less- why will the duo be more $$.

Also, what are all of the differences between Tap11 and flip 11?

Hi there! To see the key differences between the Duo and Flip, I recommend you visit our site!
