If you hadn’t heard, thousands of fans hit the iconic Venice Beach boardwalk last week to watch 18 of the world’s best BMX and skateboarding pros compete in the Sony Big Air Triples – a collaboration between Sony and ASA Entertainment to launch Sony’s new point-of-view video camera, the Action Cam.
The event – which drew 26K attendees to experience over 1,200 Action Cam demos – featured a triple jump air ramp, Sony Electrolounge, and the world’s first pro-athlete point-of-view camera competition with our own Action Cam. James Foster (BMX) and Trey Wood (Skate) each secured first place, taking out the competition with three consecutive tricks in quick succession, displaying skill and style on the massive 195-foot-long Big Air Triples course.
“Having Sony’s new Action Cam support us was awesome,” said first place BMX rider, James Foster. “The angles and footage from these cameras are amazing. It’s so great they put the event on.”
Zack Warden (BMX) and Tom Schaar (Skate) each took fan-favorite in the Sony POV Action Cam Competition where fans judged the athlete videos filmed with Action Cams, while Morgan Wade (BMX) and Adam Taylor (Skate) won the judged POV-filming competition.
Weighing in at approximately three ounces, with battery and built-in Wi-Fi®, the new Action Cam (HDR-AS15) is the perfect shooting solution for tricks on the ramp and anywhere else the action happens. The camera ships with adhesive mounts and a ruggedized waterproof case featuring a universal tripod mount, built to handle extreme environments – waterproof down to 197 feet with shock resistance, plus dirt and dust resistant seals.
The HDR-AS10 Action Cam and the HDR-AS15 Action Cam with Wi-Fi are available now for about $199.99 and $269.99 respectively. In addition to the adhesive mounts to secure Action Cam easily to flat and curved surfaces, Sony will offer a suite of mounting attachments to suit all types of active pursuits. These cameras and their accessories can be found at http://store.sony.com, Sony retail stores and other authorized retailers nationwide.
