by Gina 12/28/2011

Folks can now order the Sony a77 DSLR Camera again with the Sony Store showing shipments beginning at the end of January, early February.  Ordering  help ensures a spot in the first groups to get this camera body (and glass) sent to their doorstep in the coming months. As we get more info, we will keep posting the news. To help ring in the holiday with the camera, the SGNL team invited a member of the Digital Imaging Product Team to show us the inside guts of the camera. If you’re into geeking out, this is the video for you.

I ordered and received the A77 back in November 2010. I’d like to provide some feedback on the video side of the A77. I’m an indy film maker who was very excited about this camera’s possibilities but once in hand reality set in fast. The two major competitors of the Sony A77 are the Canon MarkII 5D and the Nikon D7000 both got it right when it comes to managing the camera’s audio with manual control options. The A77 has no manual audio option, no audio metering and full time AGC (Auto Gain Control) all add up to horrible sound recording on this other wise amazing camera. I should not have to remind Sony that sound is 50% of the video process. My other concerns are the cropping of the viewfinder in video mode and the inability to take an HDMI signal out of the camera to a secondary monitor without disabling the camera’s LCD. I hope a firmware in on the near horizon or its for sale on Craig’s List and I’m getting a Canon.

I totally agree with you and hope that it will be improved in the firmware 1.05.:)
