Three Sony cameras to put on your wish list, but don’t just take my word for it…

by Team Sony 12/07/2010

It’s been a stellar year from Sony cameras as a flurry of awards and accolades have come our way. Just today, Popular Photography Magazine named the Sony® α55 Camera of the Year! That’s on the heels of TIME™ Magazine proclaiming the α55 one of the 50 best inventions of 2010American Photo Editors giving both the NEX-5 camera and NEX-VG10 camcorder Editor’s choice awards and additional accolades for the NEX-5 from Digital Trends and Popular Photo Magazine.

With the holidays around the corner I wanted to take a minute to highlight these three cameras as many of  you are considering your shopping list. The α55, NEX-5 and NEX-VG10 cameras continue to collect awards, I think they have tremendous style and all three sport new technologies that have both the industry and fans taking notice.

I created this video guide with the help of Sony product expert, El-Deane Naude to give you an even closer look at all 3. There’s a lot of information, so to make it easier to navigate I made video chapters. Click on the note within the video to skip ahead to the next camera or back to the beginning.

I think it’s safe to say award winning Sony cameras equal great gift ideas for you. And if the photographer you’re buying for is you, get ready to see your videos and photos go from good to great with the help of one of these devices. If you’re already a proud owner of one of these cameras, how about sharing your thoughts on the cameras and even links to images you’re taken with them in the comments below.

I recently upgraded from a Nikon D40 w/ 3 lenses to a NEX for work and now I am thinking of doing the same at home! Love the low light shootin mode that is all done within the camera and not post HDR tricks needed! The DOF in video is astounding! The only draw back I have is that there is no external mic ability for custom microphones. But heck, my D40 didn’t even shoot video! So for work, it was an upgrade. I will be putting the NEX-5 on my list for Santa!

I strongly doubt any special improvement in my photos with the a55, and some of my photos would not be possible, when they are with my Sony a700 OVF DSLRs. I’ve shot video in the past but am no longer interested in shooting video, so a camera compromised from OVF DSLR by EVF so as to be able to shoot video is not interesting. Failure of Sony to support a OVF DSLR follow on for the a700 is far more serious a problem than experiments like the SLT design.
