Final Countdown to CES

by Team Sony 01/03/2008

As some of you may know, the International Consumer Electronics Show (better known as CES) begins this Monday in Las Vegas. But for me and my team it really gets going on Sunday afternoon when we will be hosting a press conference for some 700 journalists and industry analysts from around the world at our exhibit booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center.  Drafts of the speeches and presentations are written, so we are all set to go (minus any late breaking news developments).

CES is the world’s largest trade show for electronics, with well over 100,000 attendees. At Sony, we will have a host of new products, technologies and other innovations to unveil, so they won’t go away disappointed. A few clues include new display technology, wireless video transfer, audio entertainment/amusement, and higher high-definition.  If you want to get the news first, go to our news and information website for the press at www.sony.com/news on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. EST (4:30 p.m. PST).

Over the next week, the Sony Electronics blog will be bringing you the latest from CES. Colleagues and I will be blogging frequently about our experiences, the coolest products, hot technologies, celebrity sightings, the Vegas scene, and anything else CES related that I think you will find interesting. We will have videos showcasing the newest products, interviews with key Sony executives, and tours of the booth. The videos will also be available as podcasts.

On our Flickr Page, we will have hundreds of photos showing you the various goings-on at the show. In fact, we already have a bunch of set-up shots from our booth as it was under construction. Check it out by clicking on our photo album link on the upper right-hand side of the blog home page.

So stay tuned. Even though CES is a trade (i.e. non-consumer) show, the blog will be your Sony ticket to CES.

Sweet! I so wish to be there with ya…hehe…sounds like this CES is going to be one of a kind and I was glad to hear that you guys will do your best to cover the news well with videos, podcasts and pictures.
By the way, thanks for the hints Rick…. I have very good guesses for the following (and no I don’t work for Sony, ….not yet):
    1. New display technology – will be definitely your new OLED displays and introduction in the US XEL-1 model….though I would love to be surprised for a bigger model……
    2. Wireless video transfer – will most like be a Locationfree device(s) to stream HD in your home, like LF-W1HD model earlier released in Japan. Or it could be a some TV with wireless HD 1.0 or Wireless HDMI.
    3. Audio entertainment/amusement – guess what it’s going to be….a Sony Rolly of course! It is entertaining and amusing! Just please…please….price it right….it will sell well and be a huge success if it is priced well…Sony had a lot of great products introduced before, but MSRP was so high that it killed it later on. Affordable is the key!
So those are my predictions, we’ll see if I get them right. Also, you guys forgot to mention your cool and flashy CES site mentioned: http://www.sony.com/ces/index.html

Look forward to next week! L8er!

I would just like to add to Stan’s list…

    4. Sony Alpha 200 – the replcement to the Sony Alpha 100. Well, it will either be out at CES or else PMA later on in the month – not a lot of difference there. I did notice that Sony Alpha is included in the CES show.

Yes it was very bizarre not to mention the CES mini-site!

    Green at CES 2008
Sony will be launching the Cyber-shot DSC-S730 in Vegas this weekend, but what we’d really like to see on the Sony stand is the Odo!!
